We were fortunate to bring printmaker / installation artist Heinrich Toh to Bethel for an exhibition and workshop recently. I got to be a student for a couple of days as Heinrich gave a crash course in paper litho image transfer and other monoprint methods. While I spent the workshop time exploring techniques and didn’t come away with many finished works, I’m now at work on a new series of prints that examines cultural migrations and geographic displacements, with cartographic and genealogical references. I have about two dozen in process right now, at various stages of completion. Here’s one of the few finished ones (or is it? more layers to come, perhaps).
