One semester finished

Mid-December means that I survived the first semester of full-time teaching! It was a steep learning curve, in some ways, but I had some really excellent and engaged students. My Drawing class was full of high achievers, the Design students came from widely varied backgrounds and brought with them some great insights for good class discussions, and teaching the first-year experience course was a real joy. I’ve made a lot of notes for things I want to do differently in each class next fall, but overall, I think the first semester went well. Grades are turned in and now I look forward to the January printmaking intensive.

My group of 10 first-year students bonded in a really heartwarming way. They even organized a Secret Santa gift exchange - and the gifts showed how well they knew each other!
