Lectures are done; portfolios, papers, and exams are recorded; and final grades have been submitted. I am thankful to have had such a great group of smart, talented, and engaged students this year. While there were trials, to be sure, and steep learning curves, with the perspective of a few days’ hindsight, I cannot think that it could have been much better. I am particularly thankful for a supportive academic community. My faculty, staff, and administrative colleagues offered teaching advice, input on student situations, and encouragement in general. And, I’m affirmed that they see the value of research and scholarship to this primarily teaching position, giving me the David H. Richert Distinguished Scholar Award at the end of the year (article here). I can assure them that the money will be well-spent, supporting summer research travels.
