Fulbright: arrival

I made it to the far north a few days ago, a land of much snow and far-below-zero temperatures: Edmonton, Alberta, where I’m beginning my semester-long stint as Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Arts and Humanities at the University of Alberta. (I’m noticing that the “digital badge” I was sent has the wrong date on it – should be 2021-22.) I also happen to have arrived during a big surge in COVID, in both Canada and the US; travel was tricky and I’m guessing that my time on campus may be limited at least initially. But we are now all well versed in pandemic flexibility, so in addition to settling in, I am filling my days with drawing, reading, walking, thinking, and working on plans for my time here this semester.

(Maybe this is the right badge?)
